BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Fire ripped through a vacant house on Hirschbeck Avenue in Buffalo, and five people were taken out of a neighboring home as firefighters tried to keep the flames from spreading there.

By the time firefighters arrived around 4 a.m. Friday, the fire had already spread through the entire vacant building, which is a total loss.
