Beginning Saturday, people making calls in the 315 area code will need to dial 10 digits when making a call due to an area code overlay.
Area code 680 has been created to accommodate the increasing need for numbers in Central New York.
Beginning on March 11, new telephone lines in that region will begin with the new area code. Existing phone numbers will not change.
Both area codes will serve the same geographic area.
Calls to 911 emergency services will not change.
