You know it's going to be a hot day when temperatures are flirting with 80 degrees before sunrise. Time Warner Cable News reporter John Borsa has more on how Western New Yorkers are beating the heat.
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- There's just one way to beat the heat on what will likely be one of the hottest days of the year in Buffalo.
"I woke up at 5 this morning, I didn't expect it to be this hot right now, but trucking through," said Alanna Krug, of Kenmore. "Very slow. It's just harder to breathe I think. I don't want to decrease my mileage so I'm just trying to get out earlier and trying to beat the heat."
Even for the most avid runners, who hit the pavement for up to 10 miles a day or more, the blazing, scorching heat is too much.
"Oh, I like, start getting, like, light headed. I start not being able to breathe and I have to sit under a tree until it goes away. And usually I have to walk the rest of the way," said Hillary Chiarella of Buffalo. "I don't have an interest in hurting myself. I'll usually go three or four miles and stop and walk the rest of the day where on a normal day I'd go, seven or eight, nine."
Which is a good strategy for anyone, from runners to golfers and even walkers, who say the earlier in the day, the better when it comes to weather like this.
Follow the usual advice: rest. Don't overdue it and drink plenty of water.
"I just enjoy it. I enjoy this weather while we have it. I want to make the best of it while we have these nice days like this. It may not stay like this for too long," said Doreen McAllister of Buffalo.
