The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is sending a clear message to New Yorkers who want to bring hoverboards on the subways and buses.

A new ad reminds commuters hoverboards are illegal to ride or carry on any bus, train or in any train station.

The MTA contends hoverboards are not safe and can catch fire.

The ban went into effect last month.

They say the boards violate MTA policy that prohibits the possession of hazardous or flammable material in the transit system.
