SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A woman is speaking out about her terrifying encounter with a man who a law enforcement source tells Time Warner Cable News is a suspect in connection with an Oneida woman's death.
Just hours after police believe Meeks was strangled, they say Kevin Farley, 34, was involved in a carjacking in Syracuse.
The victim of Tuesday morning's carjacking says she's happy she obeyed Farley's orders when he approached her car in a Price Chopper parking lot in Syracuse. Farley was ultimately caught about a half hour later when he crashed following a brief chase with police.
The 22-year-old Solvay woman, named Lauren, didn't wish to reveal her last name.
"Once I sat down, I didn't even have a chance to close the door and the man was just standing right there and I immediately saw the knife and he just said give me your money and your keys, so I said okay," Lauren said.
Lauren said police told her late Tuesday night that the man was considered a suspect in Meeks' death. Meeks' neighbors say she was a good mom who kept to herself.
"Her kids were always in sports at the dance classes, they were never late," said Kim Snyder, a neighbor. "Other than that, I mean, she was a good person. Really quiet, to herself, you didn't really hear here much."
Police believe Meeks was strangled late Monday night or early Tuesday morning at her home in Oneida.
Lauren says if Farley ends up being charged with murder, it'd make her interaction with Farley just hours later more disturbing.
"If it ends up being true, that just makes it so much more scarier," said Lauren.
Farley is facing a variety of charges in relation to the carjacking.
Both Lauren and neighbors are still in a state of disbelief.
"I didn't sleep really, I had nightmares," said Lauren.
"I'm shocked about it, when I came home from work I just couldn't believe it," said Snyder.
Police say charges in relation to Meeks' death won't be filed until the investigation is complete. That could take several days.
