BUFFALO, N.Y. --Buffalo's West Side came together at Lasalle Park Saturday afternoon

to celebrate World Refugee Day through a language every culture can understand soccer.

The YWCA partnered with Buffalo's Immigrant and Refugee Empowerment Coalition to host the celebratory soccer tournament.

12 teams from all over the world competed in the two day event for the big trophy.

The organization works to empower refugees by creating a sense of community.

"My kids and family here, they are chatting with other cultures, which is a great thing.  We don't need to travel overseas to Africa probably or Asia. We have people here.  So you can learn about their life, their culture, their background" said Ali Kadhun the lead organizer.

The tournament is free to the public, and the event continues Sunday from 3 to 7 PM for an Ethnic Festival.
