Environmental groups here in New York State are planning a rally later Monday against the construction of the proposed Northeast Energy Direct Pipeline.

The pipeline would transport natural gas from Pennsylvania to markets in New York and New England.

Organizers of tonight's rally say other projects from Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company, the company behind the proposal, have been marred by environmental issues.

Some residents and community leaders from Schoharie County will join environmental groups at the rally, calling for a stop to the proposal.

The rally is at 5:30 p.m. at the Park Place Days Inn in Schoharie.
