With the winter snow now gone, drivers are dealing with another road hazard - potholes. So on Thursday, local officials in Orange County met with state officials to talk about the problem. Reporter Jessica Chen has more.
TOWN OF WALLKILL, N.Y. -- Drive around the Hudson Valley and you won't see a shortage of these - potholes, making driving conditions a bit more difficult.
"Route 302 is pretty beat up, it was a tremendously hard winter and we know that," said Town of Wallkill DPW Commissioner, Lou Ingrassia Jr.
He said that stretch of road was the topic of discussion with state Department of Transportation (DOT) workers Thursday.
"We wanted to create a dialogue with the DOT to find out where they were in response to some of our concerns," said Ingrassia.
He said for the first time in years, he along with several local officials sat down with state DOT engineers and told them what state roads needed to be fixed.
Ingrassia said DOT officials have assured them work will start - though only on some parts of the road.
"There are plans in place to repave areas and sections on Route 302, but the majority of the work wont happen until 2016," said Ingrassia.
He said Thursday's meeting was set to increase communication between local and state departments. He said they plan to meet quarterly from now on.
But for drivers who want to report poor road conditions, Ingrassia said the best way is to do it on the state DOT website.
