MACHIAS, N.Y. -- State police have identified the elderly woman whose body was found Thursday after a house fire in Machias, Cattaraugus County.
According to state police, the body of Irene Janicki was found outside the house, near the house door.
Police said firefighters responded just before noon on Thursday to Potter Road, where they found the house fully engulfed in flames.
Police said Janicki died from congestive heart failure, and also suffered thermal injuries. She was 87.
