Today kicks off Pride Month. Each June, we celebrate and honor the LGBTQ community.

According to the Library of Congress, pride commemorates the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion in New York City.

These riots launched the LGBTQ liberation movement. Traditionally, Pride Month features several events, parades, and festivals.

However, this year will look a little different.

Here in Western New York, pride week will be celebrated from August 17th to the 23rd.

The pride center originally moved the dates so the parade could still be held, but due to the coronavirus, there will not be a parade or festival this year.

There will, however, be several online events to “reimagine” pride week.
