In 2009, Karen Wielinski walked one of her daughters down the aisle.

“It should’ve been her dad,” she said.

Doug Wielinski was the only person not on Flight 3407 to be killed when the plane crashed on their Clarence Center home.

Over the past decade, Karen Wielinski has worked to preserve the legacy of those who died, while moving forward with her own life.

She’s written a book about that night and everything that’s happened in the following years. Doug remains a part of the lives of his widow, children and grandchildren.

“My life changed because I lost Doug, but it also changed because Jill and I survived,” she said.  “Once you survive something like that, your whole outlook on life really changes.”
