For the past 20 years, Daniel Weaver has taught hundreds of students at Shaker High School, but for the past few weeks, he hasn't taught a single class.

Weaver hasn't been allowed to step foot on school property since students shared concerns with staff about his relationship with a student.

"We had no idea this was going on," North Colonie CSD Superintendent Dr. D. Joseph Corr said. "We were certainly shocked and dismayed."

The global studies teacher was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child Wednesday night. Police say he was inappropriately communicating with a 16-year-old male student through a school Twitter account, laptop and his own phone for at least three months.

"Some children and adults in underwear, as well as the defendant was observed in some of the photos to be nude, although covering his private parts," said Lt. Robert Winn of the Colonie Police Department.

According to investigators, the 46-year-old Weaver didn't have any physical contact with his student, but he did send gift cards, asking for suggestive pictures in return and to meet in person.

"He was also heavily involved in after-school clubs, so he did have contact with not only students of his in class, but other students of his in the school," Winn said, "so it it leads us to the feeling that unfortunately there may be other victims out there."

The investigation also shows he allegedly had inappropriate communication with other current and former students -- some minors, some adults. Police and the district are asking parents to have those difficult conversations with their children as they continue to investigate.

"I can only assume that students will be concerned, that students will be saddened, that students will be upset, and we are here to support them," Corr said. "We will have counseling available to them, as well as our staff."
