The mother of a 2-month-old baby taken in a stolen SUV has been charged, according to Buffalo Police.

Police say 25-year-old Jacqualynne Miles has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

They say the incident happened outside of a liquor store before 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Hertel Avenue and Niagara Street. Miles left her keys in the SUV while she went inside, according to investigators.

Just over an hour later, the baby girl was dropped off at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital by one of two suspects involved in the theft.

According to police, the suspect told caretakers at the hospital the child was found in her car seat on the side of the thruway in Grand Island. Investigators confirmed to Spectrum News that part of the suspect's story was not true.

The suspects, ages 15 and 18, are now in custody after police found the White Chevy Equinox in Niagara Falls Saturday night.

Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo is using this as a reminder to never leave your child unattended and your keys in the car.

"Do not leave your vehicle running with your keys in the car,” said Rinaldo. “You are creating an attractive nuisance and never, ever leave a car running with a child in the car. The car was unlocked, the car was running, the keys were in the ignition. Don't ever leave kids in a car, period — especially if the car is not running, let alone if the car is running. All you’re asking for is a potential tragedy."
