A child is dead after a house fire in the town of Tonawanda.

According to a family member, 8-year-old Seth Seth Creenan lost his life in the fire. He was a student in the Sweet Home Central School District.

Firefighters responded to a home on Sunset Terrace around 10:45 p.m. Thursday.

Brighton Fire Department was first to respond, but have deferred to the Tonawanda Police Department, who is now leading the investigation.

The fire department says multiple people were inside the house at the time of the fire, but haven't released further details at this time.

“People quite often fail to realize that you have human beings responding to these calls when there is a fatality. Quite often it hits the first responders hard and I know in this case support is being provided for both fiefighters and police officers that were impacted at the scene, investigators that showed up and were affected by it,” Tonawanda Police Captain Nicholas Bodo said.

The school district released a letter to parents offering counseling and bereavement support services to students and staff members at Glendale Elementary School.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the home is a total loss.

A GoFundMe has been setup by the family.
