Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York is making it easier for members to get over-the-counter COVID-19 tests.

As part of the new federal guideline, members can now get reimbursed for up to eight over-the-counter tests per month.

To get your money back, you generally have to submit a claim through the mail or online. If you have Highmark Health insurance, you will no longer need to do that, as the provider is eliminating up-front costs for tests at any pharmacy within the network.

"So instead of the upfront cash register, they're going to take those to the pharmacy counter," said Dr. Bob Wanovich, VP of ancillary provider strategy and management. "Show their Highmark insurance card. And in some cases, some people may have a separate pharmacy insurance card. They should show that. And then ask the pharmacist or their staff to process those tests under their prescription drug benefit."
