Gov. Kathy Hochul stopped in Buffalo on Monday to discuss affordable housing.

During her visit, she discussed the issue of housing being felt across New York state and specifically in Western New York.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Perry Street, where the Commodore Perry Homes in Buffalo’s First Ward neighborhood are being redeveloped. The new, all-electric housing development will consist of 405 affordable homes in 27 newly constructed buildings.

Hochul made sure to highlight the people responsible for such projects.

"The residents who never gave up, the community leaders, the people who care so deeply about this," said Hochul. "People who live here, people who invest here, business developers, people like the Zemskys who believed in this part of our city and never gave up."

Hochul went on to say that this is just the beginning, with $114 million being committed to Western New York for various projects getting underway in the coming months.
