The Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is bringing light and hope to those who need it the most this holiday season by lighting its Tree of Hope.
Patients, survivors, caregivers and their loved ones all came together in Kaminski Park and Gardens Friday night to remember those who have lost their battle with cancer and honor those who are still fighting.
The 25-foot tree was lit by 11-year-old survivor Ella. She is also a member of the Courage of Carly Fund at Roswell Park.
People also got the chance to write personal and inspirational messages on ornaments to hang on the tree.
One man explained what this event means to him.
"When they light the tree there's just something symbolic about the tree lighting and to me, this is no different than the tree they light up in Rockefeller Square, this is our version of that," said Scott Zipp of West Seneca. "People all coming together for a common cause that has touched everyone's lives and it's nice to see that there's still a lot of positive humanity out there."
This was Roswell's 25th annual tree lighting.
