Something to consider as you do your last minute holiday shopping — porch pirates are out in full force trying to steal your Christmas gifts.

The U.S. Postal Service says having your packages stolen is completely avoidable. It's not always theft, sometimes packages don't arrive because of a lost address.

USPS officials say there are options to make sure you receive your packages, like live tracking your order frequently so you know exactly when it's delivered to help you get it off your doorstep. Also if you go away, put your mail on hold.

"With everyone shopping online there's so much more opportunity for people to take those packages and ruin Christmas," said Karen Mazurkiewicz, USPS spokeswoman.

The postal service also offers "informed delivery," allowing you to share with your carrier other locations to place packages besides the front porch.
