This time last year, we highlighted Lorenzo Alexander's work with the South Park football team. Alexander's continued his involvement with the Sparks, but I wanted to find other people and places the Bills' Walter Payton Man of the Year recipient has made a difference.

"I have never seen an individual give the way Lorenzo gives,” said Lucy Candelario.

"God has some type of people around and he's one of them,” said Sonia Tiradeo.

The Belle Center's one of the many places Lorenzo Alexander has touched.

"Every promise that he has made he has kept and then some,” said Candelario.

The nonprofit community center on Buffalo's West Side first saw Alexander during a Bills community event in 2017.

"He was right there playing with the kids. We had activities, hands-on. He's signing autographs. He's answering questions. He's talking to them. At no point from the outside looking in did it look like he was doing what he was told to do. He was just being who he was and we got a chance to witness it and be a part of it,” said Zoron Smith.

Since, he's organized a bowling fundraiser as well as a health fair — and has other ideas already in the works.

But Alexander's biggest gesture has come the past two Christmases.

"He gave to my 10-year-old a Playstation 4 and to my daughter a computer for the other one a Nintendo Switch. They asked for it and I was thinking maybe they'll give them one of those things, but not all of the things. He gave them all,” said Tirado.

"They really went out and got these things for each kid and made sure that each family had what they put on that list. I had never been a part of and I had never seen anything like that in real life,” said Smith.

And it wasn't just toys that were given.

"They put things down like tires for my car or a crib for my child. We really don't have winter clothing we would like that. I don't think there was one item that was on that list that they put down, and I'm talking about 15 families, that he didn't get,” said Candelario.

"It was a blessing because sometimes as a single mom you can give some kind of things to your kids, and he gave them to them,” said Tiradeo.

Tiradeo brought her four kids to America just about a year ago after Hurricane Maria ravaged her homeland of Puerto Rico.

Alexander's been a shining light during the transition. Tiradeo says she has never met anyone like him.

“No. Never in my life, my whole life. He's a very special person,” she said.

Zoron Smith was born and raised in Buffalo, and has been around the Belle Center most of his life and received the Christmas gifts two years ago.

"He came here, he's seen things, he's observed things and he felt the same connection and, to me, I really couldn't compare it. I've come across other celebrities and sports stars before and you don't get the same feeling. He truly stands out,” said Smith.

Tears of joy were shed during and after the overwhelming moment, making it tough for an appropriate response to Alexander himself.

So Sonia has this message for Lorenzo.

"That he came in a very difficult time to my family and I want to say, ‘Thank you’ and God bless him,” said Tiradeo.

Candelario was also a part of Alexander's giving, receiving two Super Bowl tickets from Lorenzo in appreciation for what she does daily as the Belle Center's executive director. The NFL will announce the Walter Payton Man of the Year Saturday night in Atlanta.
