The village of Deposit is moving forward with plans to dissolve their police department because of budget concerns.

A three-hour public meeting on the issue Tuesday evening was full of conversation with people in the community.

Resolutions brought forward to dissolve the police department and the court system were both approved unanimously by the village board.

However, not everyone is in agreement and Mayor Bryan Moore said those people will have an opportunity to petition the vote.

"I'm sure there's going to be some people out petitioning,” Moore said. “I'm not sure whether they will get enough signatures or not but if so it will go up to a vote and people will speak there."

Any community members who want to create a petition have 30 days to gain 200 village member signatures.
