A Johnson City woman was issued eight traffic tickets after authorities discovered during a traffic stop that she had 12 people in the car, many of them children not in proper seats.

According to New York State Police, authorities were dispatched to a 911 complaint of several children inside a vehicle that were not restrained in car seats. The caller told 911 operators that the vehicle was leaving the Tioga Downs Resort and Casino parking lot and driving away.

A trooper spotted the vehicle on State Route 17 and initiated a traffic stop. The trooper discovered 12 people in the vehicle, which was only equipped to safely seat seven people. The trooper also found that there were seven children in the vehicle ranging from ages 3 to 11 that were not in child seats, booster seats, or even belted in the vehicle.

The driver, Hayley L. Rodriguez, 26, was also only driving with only a learner’s permit and did not have a licensed driver in the vehicle.

The trooper stayed with the vehicle for more than two and a half hours to ensure everyone in the vehicle was picked up by a licensed driver with the proper safety equipment.
