The driver involved in a crash that killed a pedestrian in Steuben County on Friday is now facing charges.

According to New York State Police, Tonia Smith, 45, of Painted Post, has been charged with Vehicular Manslaughter in the 2nd Degree and Driving While Intoxicated.

Officials responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash around 12:30 p.m. Friday on State Route 415 in the Town of Bath.

Police said that a pedestrian, identified Monday as Donald Masti, 56, of Bath, was trying to cross the road when Smith struck them. Masti was taken to Ira Davenport Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Smith was also taken to the hospital.

An investigation is ongoing.
