Many state leaders are voicing their disappointment after Amazon announced it will no longer place a headquarters in New York.

The $3 billion tax break stirred a lot of pushback from leaders statewide. That opposition is why Amazon is no longer putting its second Headquarters in New York.

"Should they have come here you know that would have been great. We're right here in Central New York, right on the thruway, on 81 we have the trains coming. But I think sometimes we get it wrong,” said Assemblywoman Pamela Hunter.

Senator Fred Akshar said New York needs to start separating its needs from its wants.

"We really need to do a little bit of self-reflecting and ask ourselves the question, why is it we have to provide $3 billion in incentives to bring a company here, the world's richest company, which is going to create 25,000 jobs?"

Akshar doesn't blame the company for wanting out.

"Sadly Jeff Bezos has joined thousands and thousands of New Yorkers who have decided to walk away from this state, rather than try to continue to gut it out here because New York just simply makes it too difficult to do business here,” said Akshar.

Amazon was expected to occupy up to 500,000 square feet in 2019 and work to construct more than 4 million square feet of commercial space over the next 10 years.
