Police in Johnson City have released the name of the 11-year-old child who died what police are deeming “a suspicious death.”

Police say the child died at a residence Saturday in Johnson City.

The exact cause of death has not yet been determined, according to police. 

Officials identified the child on Thursday as Jerome Smith, of Burbank Avenue.

The Johnson City School District released a statement Monday afternoon, saying that it was “saddened to learn of the death of one of their 5^th grade students over the weekend. Counselors and other supports were immediately put into place today and will remain throughout the week to be available to our students and staff.”

The case remains under investigation.
