BINGHAMTON, N.Y. –- More than a million dollars could soon be stripped from local towns and villages in places like Broome County.

Governor Cuomo proposed cutting state aid by $60 million.

"The governor is essentially saying by this sweep, "We don't care about you and we don't need you and you might as well just leave," said Fred Akshar, (R) Senate – Binghamton.

The village of Endicott could soon lose more than $312,000.

Vestal and Johnson City would be stripped of more than $340,000 combined.

Mayors from both parties are now calling on the governor to reconsider.

"This is going to cripple us. It's a large amount of money and I urge the governor to cut his twisted agenda and get some reality back in his life and look at what we do down here. We're suffering," said John Schaffer, (D) Vestal Supervisor.

The town of Union will take one of the biggest hits, losing more than $300,000. Supervisor Rick Materese says this could result in jobs being cut.

"It would be losing 4.3 positions. Where do you take those positions out of? We're a service organization, so what do we cut? Code enforcement? Do we cut our highway patrols," said Rick Materese, (D) Union Supervisor.

Materese says these cuts could come at a time when the town is already struggling with man power.

"We have a backup of cases already just because there are a lot of things we want to take care of and we want to make sure that the code is enforced in the town of union so if we're cutting another person that could go out and do the studies that we need, we're that much further back," said Materese.

The budget deadline is April 1st.

Some large cities like Binghamton and Syracuse would not be impacted by the cuts.
