Many people in America are given few options when deciding where to live. But new legislation could give people like Mahalah Neller of Binghamton an opportunity to keep their independence.

"I live by myself but I do have services I do have an aid. And it's just a great thing and now I can live my life, I'll get better, each day," said Neller.

The Southern Tier Independence Center is advocating for people with disabilities to stay in the community. This local center provides a program that gives resources to those in need of help.

"That's a program where a person with a disability has the option of hiring their own worker and then overseeing the personal care they receive in their own home," said Assistant Director Jennifer Watson.

The Disability Integrated Act was reintroduced by Senator Chuck Schumer for the third time overall, and his second time.
