After the story garnered national attention over the weekend, a reward has been offered to find the person or people responsible for throwing two dogs out of a vehicle near Marathon last week.
Spectrum News was told the dogs were rescued along Interstate 81. A witness says they saw the animals thrown from an older model blue or dark blue Dodge Durango.
Several local, state, and national animal welfare agencies and private donors are calling for justice — together offering a total of $16,500 for information that leads to a conviction.
Workers at The Humane Society say one of the dogs, now named "Trooper", has a compound leg fracture in one leg, a hairline fracture in the other, as well as lung contusions and broken ribs.
"We've seen a lot here and we've seen horrible things, this we've never seen before. Not to this extent. People don't feed their dogs and that's horrible and we deal with that, people abuse their dogs we deal with that, but this really hit us hard," said Broome Humane Society Executive Director Karen Matson, "
Trooper is alert and responsive and is being examined by an orthopedic surgeon. The other dog, "Adam", is in good health and is staying at the Broome Humane Society being updated on his shots.
