BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- With Giving Tuesday upon us, charities are hoping the recent tax reform won't have an impact on donations.

In 2018, the standard deduction for individuals and married couples filing jointly nearly doubled.

That means a single person would need their total deductions to exceed $12,000 before they receive any type of write-off.

Couples would need theirs to exceed $24,000.

On Tuesday, SUNY Broome hosted 24 hours of giving, where donations were accepted for future scholarships.

Program directors say despite the tax changes, the community still supports them.

"People are still very generous. We have large alumni base that are still very generous. Our community is very generous, corporations, friends. Everyone has been very generous," said Lisa Schappert, BCC Foundation Development Director.

Last year, the standard deduction sat at $6,350 for individuals.
