A $33 million mixed-income housing development in Johnson City has officially opened its doors.

The Century Sunrise Apartments on Baldwin Street in the village offers 105 affordable homes at a former Endicott Johnson Shoe Factory.

Twenty-six living spaces will also be set aside for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Rooms start around $600, with several reserved for low-income families.

Resident Harry Tittl, who lost his home in a fire three months ago, says these apartments are a lifesaver.

"I've worked hard all my life but I never planned for wealthy retirement just to survive and that's what I do. This here is excellent. No maintenance to worry about, no nothing. We're like millionaires living on the fourth floor," said Tittl.

The ground floor is set to become the home of locally-based Binghamton Brewing Co.
