More than 50 dogs were rescued by the Otsego County Sheriff's office, and they'll need new homes soon. Some of those pups can be adopted right here in Broome County.

The Susquehanna Animal Shelter needed more room, so six of the dogs have been moved to the Broome County Humane Society.

That includes a Lhasa Apso breed. The animals are being nursed back to health, and workers are already calls about adopting the pups.

"We haven't gone over their paperwork yet. Like I said, they'll be ready in about a week and a half. But people are eager, people are always looking for smaller dogs. Especially people who have smaller homes, retired couples because they're more portable and can go wherever they want to," said Executive Director Karen Matson.

Saturday, the Humane Society is hosting a free adoption event. The deadline to submit an application is Friday.
