It's hurricane season, and while the Southern Tier is staying dry for now, neighbors are well aware of the impact of storm damage.

Hurricane Florence has started to hit along the Carolinas and the storm brings back memories of the 2011 flood in Broome County.

The damage left behind seven years ago was caused by remnants from Tropical Storm Lee, which left much of the area underwater.

With another storm on the horizon, emergency workers in Broome County are stressing the importance of being prepared.

"What we would tell any resident if this were occurring here or down there, first and foremost listen to the authorities and the messages that are coming out, so staying informed,” said Broome County EMS Director Michael Ponticiello.

Hurricane Florence is one of four named storms currently in the Atlantic Ocean.
