COLESVILLE, N.Y. -- The home of everyone's favorite giraffe could see an expansion.

Animal Adventure Park in Colesville recently applied for $30,000 in funding for a new discovery station and event center. The project would add a handicapped-accessible educational playground area, and new pavilions for school camps.

Last year, more than 200,000 people from across the state and the country visited the park. Owner Jordan Patch says educating children will always be the goal of the park.

"We have young children that are here, and we are right now developing that appreciation for living things and animals, which turns into the educational factor which leads to conservation," Patch said. "Education today leads to conservation in the future."

Animal Adventure currently has approximately 50 employees, with plans to add 11 more jobs through this expansion.

The park will find out if it gets the funding when the county legislature votes at its July 19 meeting.
