A local priest facing sexual abuse allegations is relieved of his duties, at his own request.

The Rochester Catholic Diocese says Father Thomas Valenti asked for personal time away, which was granted.

Valenti is accused of abusing a 15-year-old from 1975 to1977. He serves as a Parochial Administrator at Blessed Trinity, which includes Saint Patrick's in Owego.

The Diocese says a 2003 investigation into these allegations cleared Valenti of any wrongdoing.

In a statement they said, "This past allegation is painful for everyone concerned and traumatic for anyone involved, certainly including these faith communties and father valenti. No further complaints of sexual abuse of a minor against Father Valenti have been received."
