A fire destroyed a Riverow building at 200 Front Street back in 2000. About 5 years ago, Nelson Development Group decided to rebuild.

They started construction on the Gateway Owego project in September and are hoping to finish by the fall. It will be home to commercial and residential space, a county tourism office, and public bathrooms, as well as provide access to the village's riverwalk.

Many community members are excited to see the building brought back to life.

"It's magnificent," said Carol Ostrander, the owner of Carol's Coffee and Art Bar. "I go by there and it's so wonderful. It's like brand new - nothing ever happened."

People can check out the building's progress at an open house this Friday from 5-7 p.m.
