BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- On Monday, Binghamton Police announced the arrest of 47-year-old Timothy Lee, of Vestal. He's accused of engaging in sexual acts with a 15-year-old back in 2016, and again in 2017.

Parents were notified Monday night that a teacher in the high school had been placed on leave due to an ongoing police investigation.

Students tell us Lee was the bowling coach at the school and also coached the 'Triple Cities Tremors' softball teams.

The chairman of that league tells us he's been relieved of his coaching duties.

Students who had Lee as a teacher say they never expected something like this to happen.

"I was very surprised to hear about it because yeah, it's a public school and there are stigmas about public schools but it should still be a safe place no matter what,” said Teddazia Milner, who had Lee as a teacher.

The superintendent released a statement saying, “We take these allegations very seriously. As always, our top priority remains providing a safe, top quality education for the students of our district. We are confident that this incident will not impact your student’s daily routine."
