BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A town of Binghamton man is New York state's newest jackpot winner.
61-year-old Tim Emmons hit it big after purchasing a $5 ticket at the Mirabito on Park Avenue.
He only plays the lottery a few times a year and bought tickets for his 7 children and himself.
After winning on a couple of tickets, he decided to return, and buy a few more of the same "88 Fortunes" tickets.
What happened next left him speechless.
"Initially the shock was a lot of denial. I didn't believe it and it started to sink in that I had a big one. I started thinking about how could I do more for people and how could I help, because that's in my nature," said Tim Emmons, Jackpot Winner.
Emmons chose to take the lump sum of the jackpot which totals a little more than $537,000 after taxes.
