Michele Neurauter was a beloved volunteer in the city of Corning. Gabrielle Mediak spoke with her in 2016 as she gave back to the community. All this as the daughter, now accused in her death, was right by her side.

CORNING, N.Y. -- Throughout her life, Michele Neurauter was known for helping others. Whether it be through her job at Corning Incorporated or helping out in the community; she was always there to lend a hand -- or a plate.

So it comes as no surprise that she and her family volunteered each Thanksgiving together.

Back in 2016, she and her daughters cooked a free Thanksgiving Meal at Christ Episcopal Church for anyone who needed it. She spoke about how special it felt to share the experience with those who came in, saying "Thanksgiving is celebrating with the community and giving back."

Her daughter Karrie Neurauter was home from college that weekend on Thanksgiving break. She helped her mother in the kitchen for hours; mixing the sweet potatoes, roasting the turkey and helping pack meals.

Seeing the pair together that day, nothing appeared out of the ordinary. But now, a year and-a-half later, Karrie has been charged in her mother's death.

Michele was killed this past August, and as the investigation into her ex-husband and daughter's involvement moves forward, loved ones are choosing to remember her positivity and willingness to give.

She said when she served the community, she was the one who felt blessed to be able to do so. And now, they say they were the ones blessed to have known her.
