BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A recently released Broome County public service announcement features state and local officials, along with members of law enforcement, advocating for drug treatment services in Broome County.

This comes as a vote looms to accept nearly $3 million in state funding to bring treatment services to the former Broome Developmental Center. The resolution was originally left off the legislature's December calendar.

Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski says when it comes to tackling this epidemic, we need to act quickly.

"It's not getting any better, if anything, it's getting worse. It's an epidemic and I feel we should anyway possible not just by making arrests because we never want to arrest out way out of this. Everybody should make an effort to do what they can to stop this," said Zikuski.

The vote to accept or reject the state funding is set for Wednesday, December 27.
