After an unusually wet and cool start to the month, July is now back to its old self again. Upper-level high pressure has developed over the southeastern U.S. and is now expanding westward, ready to set up shop over Texas for a while.
One last wildcard will have some impact this weekend. Tropical moisture – once associated with a tropical disturbance that pushed into Louisiana on Thursday – will drift westward across Texas. While little rainfall is anticipated, cloud cover may moderate temperatures slightly for mainly central parts of the state.
Otherwise expect warm, occasionally cloudy mornings and blazing hot afternoons through the next seven days. Lows will drop to the middle and upper 70s with highs in the middle and upper 90s with some 100s in various locations.
Heat index “feels like” temperatures will top out in the low 100s for a few hours each afternoon. Practice heat safety and avoid heat illness by staying hydrated, dressing appropriately, and taking frequent breaks to cool off completely.
