CINCINNATI — It was an exciting day when Mount Saint Joseph senior Aliyah Huff heard the news that Joe Biden won the presidential election.

ā€œI was sitting here, same way I am today, and just watching and they came on with an interruption about him winning and I was just like wow I’m a part of history,ā€ said Huff.

  • Huff says she was happy with President-Elect Joe Biden and his platform

  • She hopes Biden will tackle systemic racism during his four-year term

As a college student, Huff says it was important for Biden to be elected president because he has a concrete plan for COVID-19.

ā€œThat’s something that we haven’t had in these last couple of months and it was important for me to have something to look forward to in the next year,ā€ she said.

And Huff isn’t the only one excited to see Biden elected. Her friend and peer Jaleah Fair-Harris says she was also happy when she heard the news.

ā€œI just felt calm,ā€ said Fair-Harris. ā€œI just felt at peace. I just felt like it was long overdue and I just felt happy.ā€

And over these next four years, she says she hopes to see Biden tackle police reform.

ā€œI’m just looking forward to them just reforming it so well that we don’t have any problems with inequality, racism, and prejudice and discrimination and things like that,ā€ she said.

And just like Fair-Harris, Huff says she would like see not only police reform, but several other changes as well.

ā€œSystemic racism in the justice system — I think that’s very important and that somebody has to tackle,ā€ said Huff. ā€œThis is not just the end of something. It’s definitely the beginning, and I think they’re going to do a great job.ā€
