HOUSTON — Texas natives and global superstars, Beyonce Knowles-Carter and Kelly Rowland, are giving back to their hometown in a big way.

Two-thirds of the former pop and R&B girl group, Destiny’s Child, will provide 31 new housing units and support to those in need. In a joint effort with Harris County, the new permanent complex will be in Houston's midtown neighborhood.

The collaboration is with the Knowles-Rowland House and the American Rescue Plan and is a $7.2 million initiative, according to Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo.

The announcement of the new housing project couldn’t come at a better time as the city of Houston has recently reduced its homeless population by 20%, according to the Coalition for The Homeless.

New details surrounding the initiative are set to be announced in September when Beyonce brings her highly anticipated Renaissance Tour to Houston, according to officials.
