TAMPA, Fla. — Hundreds of veterans and volunteers are coming to Tampa to take part in service projects all across the city.
Every year, The Mission Continues picks one city in the U.S. to visit and this year it’s Tampa.
Hope Owens-Henry, an Army veteran, is one of the volunteers.
She was at James Cole Village on Saturday which is one of the places volunteers will go.
“When we come back on the 20th for mass deployment, we’re going to be removing all of the old mulch and re-mulching all the areas around the trees,” she said.
Hope said they’re looking for more volunteers to join.
This is the ninth year ‘The Mission Continues’ has brought volunteers together, each time choosing a different city.
Last year, they went to San Antonio with around 1,200 volunteers.
Hope said to be able to give back to her community like this is an amazing opportunity.
“I have been blessed in my life,” she said. “It is my obligation to give back and be a blessing to anyone else.”
Volunteers will spend a time at the following sites:
- Day 1: Volunteers of America Florida at James Cole Village
- Day 2: Sustainable Living Project and Sunrise Children Services
- Day 3: MLK Recreation Complex in Tampa and the West Tampa Grows Healthy Garden
- Day 4: Sweetwater Organic Farm
- Day 5: Town and Country Elementary School
