COLUMBUS, Ohio — Feeling down can be overwhelming, but what if you had a way to lift your spirits on the toughest of days?
A group of elementary school students at East Franklin Elementary School is trying to help with their "Courage Hotline."
What You Need To Know
- A group of elementary school students at East Franklin Elementary School created a "Courage Hotline" where callers can hear messages of encouragement and support
- The hotline was born out of a classroom project where students learned about courage and kindness, and crafted their own uplifting messages
- The project teaches kids valuable lessons about kindness, helping others, and finding purpose, and is already making a positive impact on callers
The "Courage Hotline" is a phone line where callers can hear messages of encouragement and support from students.
The idea was born out of a classroom project where students learned about courage and kindness. Teachers Abby Sweigert and Kylee Snoke worked with their students to create uplifting messages that are now available for anyone to hear.
One of the students behind the project is 6-year-old Amari Jones.
"It makes people happy, and that's good," Jones said about the hotline.
The hotline offers four different options, each with a unique message of courage and support. Students spent weeks crafting their messages, with guidance from their teachers.
Counselor Ann Hurst believes the Courage Hotline teaches kids valuable lessons about kindness and helping others.
"It's fundamental. It's part of the basic building blocks of personality to learn the kindness, to learn to help others, to learn that you do have a purpose," she said.
The hotline is already making an impact, with callers reporting feeling uplifted and encouraged.
For Amari, it's simple: "You make more people happy, the good it's going to be in life."
The Courage Hotline is a shining example of how even the smallest voices can have a big impact. To hear the messages for yourself, give the hotline a call at 614-801-8120.
