ORLANDO, Fla. — According to information from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 16-year-old student was killed Monday morning outside Oak Ridge High School when they were hit by a car on Oak Ridge Road just west of Winegard Road.

FHP did not immediately identify the pedestrian, but Orange County Public Schools confirmed they were a student in an email later in the morning.

Investigators say the student was hit by a 2012 Dodge Avenger while crossing the road. According to information from FHP, the student was not in a marked crosswalk when they were hit.

The student was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.

Troopers say the driver of the car, who has not been identified, remained at the scene and was uninjured.

In an emailed statement, OCPS media relations administrator Michael Ollendorff said officials at Oak Ridge High School are "assisting law enforcement as they investigate the incident."

FHP is actively investigating the incident.

OCPS officials say counselors for students and staff will be at Oak Ridge High School Monday.

No other information on the fatal crash was immediately released.
