JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- I have never seen '127 Hours'. I guess I should before this day.
Details from JCC:
Jefferson Community College (JCC) will hold its annual Leadership Day conference for high school and college students on Wednesday, October 26, 2016. This year’s featured keynote speaker is Aron Ralston, adventurer and subject behind the 2010 released movie, 127 Hours, starring actor James Franco.
In April 2003, Ralston was hiking alone in a remote area of Utah’s canyon country when an 800-pound boulder broke loose trapping him by his right hand between two boulders. After nearly six days without water or a means of communication, Aron harnessed the determination to live and freed himself with an inexpensive multi-tool knife severing his arm below the elbow, then rappelled a 65-foot cliff out of the canyon and trekked seven miles to discover his would-be rescuers.
With prosthetic arms he designed, Aron continues to pursue his passion for outdoor adventures such as skiing from the summit of Denali, North America’s highest mountain, and leading a rafting expedition through the Grand Canyon and completing his climb of Colorado’s 59 “Fourteeners” which he did during the winter alone. Penning his experience, he authored the New York Times Best Seller Between a Rock and a Hard Place. Sharing his amazing experience to encourage others to recognize their inner potential to overcome life’s adversities, Aron interviewed with former anchor Tom Brokaw on NBC news and made appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. The major motion picture 127 Hours, an adaptation of Aron’s book, was nominated for 6 Oscars.
In addition to a keynote address, JCC’s Leadership Day program features sessions on team building and goal setting. The program was launched in 2008 to enhance and develop leadership skills of high school and college students. In 2013, JCC’s Leadership Day Program received the Northeast Region Program of the Year designation by the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities.
