WATERTOWN, N.Y. --  According to a Facebook page 'Red Lights For Firefighters', City of Watertown Fire Department employees and supporters are going to hit the street next month.

A rally is being put together for an event on July 17th.  The plan, according to the page, is for people to gather at the JB Wise Parking Lot at 1pm.

Here's the text of the post.

"We are putting together an event on July 17th 2016 at 1PM in the JB. Wise Lot for the citizens of Watertown to get together and let the city manager, the mayor and the city council know we are fed up with what they are doing to the fire department and the firefighters. It’s high time we stand up and really show our support for the Watertown City Fire Department and its firefighters. We need to support them and stand beside them in unity. We are looking for anyone who wants to speak out at this event and we encourage every Watertown citizen to attend this. Also if you are a volunteer firefighter, Fort Drum firefighter or live outside of the city you are more than welcome to attend this event. Anyone interested in helping organize the event inbox us ASAP. Please let everyone know and show your support. Thank you in advance we look forward for to your attendance."

The city says it cannot allow the department's budget to continue the way it is. It's announced plans to demote eight captains and reduce their pay.
