About 20% of the full-time, benefit-eligible staff at Roberts Wesleyan University are set to be laid off, according to the university.
A Roberts Wesleyan spokesperson said Monday that this is happening as the school invests in programs with strong enrollment and high demand while also pausing or ending other programs.
They say those actions will lead to that 20% cut and that these steps will help the school remain affordable and accessible to students and families in the region.
The university's full statement can be read below:
"Roberts Wesleyan University is taking bold, thoughtful steps to ensure that the high-quality, Christ-centered education we offer remains affordable and accessible for students and families in Western New York and beyond.
In light of recent enrollment trends and financial pressures, we are strategically resizing our operations—both administratively and academically—to better align with our mission and the needs of our community.
These actions, while difficult, are necessary to strengthen our institution for the next generation of learners."
