CLEVELAND — Siren’s Curse is Cedar Point’s new roller coaster, and it goes almost 60 mph, is around 3,000 feet long and stands at 160 feet. Dave Evans, the director of construction for Six Flags, said it took nine months to complete.
“Which is faster than our traditional, but we got it done and got it on the ground,” he said.
He explained the process of creating a roller coaster like this.
“Just figuring out where in the park you could put a new coaster and then figure out what type of coaster needs to be in each park and listen to our public and figure out what needs to be where and something different that pushes the bar,” he said.
Colleen Murphy-Brady, Cedar Point’s park manager, said it’s not like anything else they have in the park.
“We have the tilt element to this ride," she said. "We don’t have anything like that in the park, so that’s a different element, but as you go through the ride, you’re gonna have lights, sound, fog, a lot of different elements that you won’t find on any other coaster in the park."
The name of the roller coaster is a nod to the stories of sirens that people say live under the surface of Lake Erie that used music to lure sailors to their deaths. Riders will be able to hear sinister music as the roller coaster goes up. Then the car will tilt 90 degrees before it plunges down fast enough to create 13 seconds of weightlessness.
Evans said he hopes, when riders get off, they immediately want to get back on.
“Hope they come back and ride again and understand how great this ride is and they keep coming back for more and understand the amount of work we all put into it and they enjoy it as much as we do,” he said.
Siren’s Curse opens to the public this Saturday.
