DURHAM, N.C. - It's a special kind of production underway at the Durham Performing Arts Center.
Crews are renovating the venue, removing thousands of seats and the carpet.
DPAC wants to make sure everybody has the best seat in the house.
Crews are in the middle of removing more than 2,000 seats and will replace them with new ones in the coming days.
This is all a part of the improvement project before the new theatre season starts next month.
The $1.8 million project will include getting new and more comfortable seats.
Officials say it's the same kind of seats you will see at Broadway shows in New York City.
On top of that, DPAC will donate its old seats to local schools and theatres.
Officials say it's the best, most theatrical way to give back to the community.
“I think it says a lot about keeping the arts alive. Anything we can do to promote the arts to aide other communities and the construction of their art facilities to pass down our knowledge and abilities is always a good thing,” said Todd Tingler.
Officials say the new seats will start coming next week and will be all installed by mid-September. They are going to stay with their signature color red.
