AUSTIN, Texas — Austin's own Matt's El Rancho opened it's doors 65 years ago today.
And the restaurant is planning to celebrate.
If you plan on joining in tonight, you can expect live music, a magician and a celebration of what would be the 100th birthday of its founder, Matt Martinez.
Matt started his career in 1923 at age 6, selling tamales from a wooden pushcart near the state Capital. In 1952, he and his wife opened their first restaurant downtown, offering seating for 40 people, and no other employees.
Today the iconic South Austin location seats nearly 600 and employs over 175 people.
The restaurant is still family-owned and operated.
